Gretha Matiauda Appointed Miss Universe Paraguay 2026
The 24-year-old economist and Miss Earth alumna is set to carry the Paraguayan flag to the 75th Miss Universe pageant in Puerto Rico.
A Powerhouse Return to the Global Stage
ASUNCIÓN, Paraguay – The search for Paraguay’s next representative has concluded with the official appointment of Gretha Matiauda as Miss Universe Paraguay 2026. The 24-year-old Asunción native, who is a trained economist, international model, and entrepreneur, takes over the mantle from her predecessor, Yanina Gómez, who notably secured a Top 30 placement at Miss Universe 2025.
A Proven Track Record in International Pageantry
Matiauda is widely regarded as one of the most experienced delegates in this year’s international circuit. Her journey in pageantry includes:
Miss United Continents 2022: Achieved a prestigious 4th Runner-up finish in Ecuador.
Miss Earth 2023: Represented Paraguay with distinction in Vietnam.
Her transition from the Earth-focused advocacy to the Miss Universe platform marks a significant evolution in her career, combining her academic background in economics with her extensive experience in the high-stakes world of global beauty competitions.
"More Than a Crown": A Mission of Responsibility
Following the official announcement, Matiauda took to social media to reflect on the weight of her new title. For her, the appointment is a transition from personal ambition to national service.
"Today I begin writing a new story—a new chapter where dreams cease to be promises and become responsibilities," Matiauda shared with her followers. "Being Miss Universe Paraguay is not just about wearing a crown; it's about carrying the voice of a country, the soul of its people, and the strength of every woman who never stopped believing."
Destination: Puerto Rico
Matiauda will now undergo intensive preparations for the 75th Miss Universe pageant. The milestone edition of the world's most-watched beauty competition is scheduled to take place in San Juan, Puerto Rico, later this year.
With Paraguay’s recent momentum in the competition—highlighted by last year's Top 30 finish—pageant analysts view Matiauda as a strong contender capable of bringing the "Land of Lace" back into the final spotlight.
